Costa Rica is a leading surfing hotspot, thanks in no small part to its clean and pristine beaches, perfect point breaks and tropical waters. For some of the most challenging waves on the planet, Costa Rica cannot be beaten. The waters are warm all year round and there are over 50 coastal breaks to be discovered and conquered. Top surfing destinations include Playa Hermosa, Playa Grande, Pavones, Witches Rock and Salsa Brava. Beach front Costa Rica villas supply both surfing equipment and lessons.

Canopy Tours:

The rainforests are fading habitats of our planet’s past. Thousands of trees are cleared daily, leading to a rise in global warming and a decrease to our planet’s bio-diversity. Now is the time to explore Costa Rica high above the ground, soaring from tree to tree and marvelling at these magnificent forests, which may soon be lost forever. Over a quarter of Costa Rica is covered by rainforests and a canopy tour is the best way to traverse them. Canopies are built into the strongest trees and a strong zip line is strung between them; you will then fly from tree to tree in a safety harness. This tour is recommended for adrenaline junkies but there are many inherent risks associated with this form of touring. You can find a canopy tour in any of the Costa Rican National Parks, which are located only a short distance from your Costa Rica lodge.

Sport Fishing:

sportfishing

Costa Rica is a haven for the avid sport fisherman. Three to four hours from the mainland, the world’s greatest fishing spots can be found where Snook, Black Marlin, Tarpoon and many other deep-sea wonders can be caught as a fine trophy of your Costa Rican vacation. Fishing is mostly restricted to Tortuguero, Barra del Colorado and a fishing licence is required. Take your proud catch back to your Costa Rica accommodation and proudly mount your prize on your wall.

White Water Rafting:

As you travel down the rapids, you can appreciate the beauty of the shore as you zip past rocks and whirlpools. White water rafting is not regulated, so an experienced guide is a must. The months of June through October are the best times to experience the thrill of rafting, with Río Reventazón and the Río Pacuar being the most accessible spots. These are the wildest times of the year for rafters, but white water rafting can be an exhilarating experience at any time.

Scuba Diving:

scubadivingA new world awaits you beneath the ocean. Scuba diving tours present you with the ideal way to view the wonders of the sea, such as colossal schools of fish, sharks, turtles and giant manta rays. Many of the scuba diving spots have low visibility underwater, but still less hold the potential for a fantastic scuba experience. Visit the Playas del Coco, Playa Hermosa and Playa Ocotal for underwater thrills or choose Bahia Drake and Drake Bay which are both off the Pacific coast. Here, over 123 species of fish, 140 species of mollusc and 35 species of coral await you.

Once the adventure is over, there are many bars, casinos, restaurants and spas that will provide a relaxing end to your busy day of sailing, kayaking or hiking through the valleys. As you travel Latin America, the wonders of this amazing country will open itself up to you, it is your choice as to which adventure you wish to take part in.
